ABSTRACT

People seem to widely disagree about moral matters. This phenomenon, proponents of the argument from moral disagreement claim, is best explained by and hence supports moral anti-realism. But is moral disagreement really widespread? In this chapter, I first explain in which sense this hypothesis would have to be true for the argument from moral disagreement to work. Then I claim that recent scientific research on the moral judgments of US Southerners versus Northerners, Americans versus Chinese and Westerners versus Mayans fails to support the hypothesis.
