ABSTRACT
This introduction outlines the scope, focus, and rationale for the study. By examining the production background of the Star Wars films and the Expanded Universe material of books, comics, and computer games it aims to link these materials into a single whole. It also provides key narrative details both from the various films and key Expanded Universe texts. From this position it highlights key existing reading within the field and details the methodology and understandings that underpin this study. It finishes by providing an overview of individual chapters and reiterates the central argument that the Star Wars franchise constantly utilises real-world history and politics as inspirations for its own materials, outputs, and messages.
