ABSTRACT

Dennis Graves, or Denny as he was known by many who knew him, really changed the game of theatrical sword making. His pieces could meet all the demands for theatre while at the same time aesthetically reproduced historical pieces with great accuracy. Today, there is a multitude of theatrical sword manufacturers, several of which come from the stage combat world. Society of American Fight Directors Certified Teacher Neil Massey began manufacturing swords in the mid-1990s, and now his company, Rogue Steel, is one of the largest, if not the largest, theatrical sword supplier in the country. Access to good quality theatrical weapons was not always possible, as Massey states: Back then it seemed to author that there was a huge gap in what was available in theatrical weaponry. There were beautiful, well made pieces from some of the established manufacturers that absolutely could not afford.
