ABSTRACT

The polishing rehearsals are the opportunity for the director to "refine" the production and bring it to "a highly developed, finished, or refined state." The rehearsal process the actors should be starting to finalize their choices for their characters and solidifying the tactical approaches used to achieve their character's goals. The play is rehearsed from beginning to end implementing all technical aspects with a cut called each time a technical element has to be refined or reworked. The complexity of the rehearsals is dependent upon the extent of the technical aspects of the production. During the technical rehearsals, the shift pattern for the movement of the scenery is rehearsed with the stage crew. The director and lighting designer reached a good understanding of the basic look of the lighting during preproduction, the technical rehearsals are now the time to refine it. Unlike light cues, recorded sound effects are prepared prior to the dry tech.
