ABSTRACT

In an educational setting, it is important for the director to realize that the relationship between the director and the cast as well as the relationship between the director and the staff are different from the traditional relationship in a noneducational environment. A director in an educational setting is both a director and a teacher. Educational theatre primarily exists to further the development of the participants. Pre-high school theatre programs rarely focus on the performance. In many cases, their major purpose is not even the development of theatre-related skills. The educational director who succeeds in accomplishing all three of these goals truly serves the students' best interests. In an educational setting, it is important for the director to realize that the relationship between the director and the cast as well as the relationship between the director and the staff are different from the traditional relationship in a noneducational environment.
