ABSTRACT

The audition process should be considered differently from the actual selection of the actors. Most general auditions follow a similar procedure although the director will need to specify the exact process. The auditionees may either sign up for a particular time slot or wait to be called to present their audition material. If the talent pool is relatively small, the general audition may serve less to cut down the number and more to provide the director with the opportunity to plan more specific approaches for the callback auditions. The director can decide during the callback auditions if these impediments are sufficient reason not to cast the actor. Assuming the director's goal is to select the strongest cast possible, it is in the director's best interest that the audition process allows the actors to do their best work. Whichever method is chosen, the director can make changes to help facilitate the audition process.
