ABSTRACT

The production calendar provides a schedule for all elements within the production. While the production calendar is important to the director, the director's major concern is the rehearsal calendar. Many directors find it useful in planning the rehearsal schedule to start with the opening performance and work backward to auditions. While not all rehearsal plans follow the same schedule, most rehearsals include the following phases: Read-through or Table Read, Blocking, Character Development, Polishing, Technical Rehearsals and Dress Rehearsals. As a director, likes to take the opportunity to distribute a company policy sheet summarizing the policies and expectations for rehearsals. Character development and scene development occupy the bulk of the rehearsal process. After preparing the production and rehearsal schedules, the director presents them to the production staff and the actors. Regardless of the philosophy with which the director prepares the rehearsal schedule, it is important to take into consideration all the needs of the play.
