ABSTRACT

The matters that are dealt with in this chapter have been touched upon before in brief in other chapters. By developing the discussion about health, safety and security further this chapter seeks to emphasise the importance these issues hold for the industry and also to throw some light on the impact of regulations on cruise operations. This is done by reflecting on the US Public Health Service (USPHS) methodology for measuring safety and hygiene on all ships visiting US shores and by considering how industry professionals deal with norovirus. Thereafter the chapter examines safety, security and risk. Finally the chapter considers the provision of services to guests who may have special needs.
