ABSTRACT

One of the major developments in the further education sector in the last few years has been the considerable increase in the number of tertiary colleges that have come into existence or are proposed. The Advisory Council for Adult and Continuing Education was dissolved by the Secretary of State at the end of 1983 after a period of six difficult years and with no indication from the DES of any replacement body. Higher education in further education has been subjected to much political pressure, to an increasing degree of financial stringency and to considerable public debate in the last few years. Education in agriculture has perhaps seen fewer changes in the last three years than most other areas of further education. Like both Education in Art and Design and Education in Agriculture, so education in management has undergone some fundamental changes during the last few years.
