ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces practical body-mind interventions that based on our clinical experience and research might have a positive impact on a variety of medical conditions. Chronic pain management strategies include drug interventions, psychological approaches such as CBT, physiotherapy, peripheral nervous system stimulation, complementary medicine interventions, body-mind interventions, and self-management technique. Medically unexplained symptoms are very common in medical practice and constitute a convoluted blend of both physical and psychological symptoms. Self-management is defined as actions which augment function, improve mood, and alleviate pain by affecting emotional, cognitive, and behavioural responses to pain. Acquaintance with the language of the body, embodied diagnostic tools, and the somatic and psychic dimensions of symptoms and diseases is paramount for a deeper and broader understanding of bodily and psychological aspects interweaving in a variety of medical conditions. Encourage patient to notice sensations of relaxation, such as tingling, changes in temperature, slowing down of breathing, and more.
