ABSTRACT

This chapter explores that how we evaluate others when we meet them, the factors which encourage to enter relationships with them and how we understand their behaviour. One important factor is the level of self-disclosure between individuals. Appropriate levels of self-disclosure can generate both trust and intimacy in relationships. Attributional theory is an important element in social psychology and remains a vibrant area of research. However, it has also become the focus of criticism particularly around the cultural specificity of much of the research involved Most research on facial expressions in non-verbal communication is based on the idea that there are a number of core emotions which are universally recognized. Alongside facial expression, we are also very aware of where other people are looking. An important feature of the intimate and personal zones is that they both allow interpersonal touch. The situations in which we feel comfortable touching and being touched vary by context.
