ABSTRACT

Aristotle identifies the six elements of any drama: story/plot, character, thought/reasoning/ideas, diction, spectacle, and song/lyric poetry, and we will define them here and further explore each in subsequent chapters as they relate to the screenwriting process. However, the first step to understanding how to write an effective screenplay is to embrace the precept that the most important element of a screenplay is the story, and all the other elements are in service to it.
