ABSTRACT

In the last few chapters, we presented and proposed ways to redress racial inequality by using multiple bodies of law and mental health assessment and research to document harm from racism. We discussed the various dimensions and elements of how legal counsel (LC) and mental health professionals (MHPs) can work effectively together and with their clients to advance claims for redressing race-based stress, injury, and harm. The approach we advocate involves a close collaboration—a “team” approach—among the LC and MHP and their clients from the outset of a complaint through its resolution, which may be, for many LCs and MHPs, a departure from their typical practice.
