ABSTRACT

One of the most influential theorists in the adult field was Wilfred Bion

(1962), a psychoanalyst who worked alongside Foulkes with soldiers

suffering from ‘military neurosis’ arising out of their experiences in the

Second World War. This phenomenon, which was called ‘shell-shock’ in

the First World War, we would now call post-traumatic stress disorder.
