ABSTRACT
Introduction At its simplest level, a story is a sequence of events involving one or more
characters in a setting, linked in some way that serves to create an overall
meaning. A story differs from a narrative in that it has more about it in the way
of aesthetic and design, the latter being an everyday form of relating that
occurs in ordinary conversations (Cattanach, 1997). A story has a ‘format’, a
recognisable structure for the account with which the listener may be familiar.
