ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book demonstrates how Systems Leadership can be used to make schools more effective in improving the learning outcomes of students. Systems Leadership is a comprehensive and coherent framework, which provides concepts, models and tools for school leaders and managers in education to use in their work to improve the working lives of people and hence the effectiveness of their organisation. It actually provides a predictive model as to what works well according the context. The book outlines the concepts, models and tools of Systems Leadership with particular reference to their application in schools and in the educational units that provide support and services to schools. School leaders will have opportunities to reflect on their own leadership experiences, their engagement in leadership development and their current theory and practice of educational leadership.
