ABSTRACT
This chapter reconstructs, applies and assesses the Oxford model as an interpretive method that equates what is important about a text with its propositional content. Its goal is to extract arguments that help answering questions the interpreting scholar, rather than the author, is interested in. To showcase the approach, as well as its limits and possibilities, it is applied to James Madison’s Federalist Paper No. 10.
