ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the organization and management or travel agencies. In the twentieth century, along with the evolution of air transport, the travel agency business was also expanded. The travel agency has been defined from different perspectives: as an intermediary, as a location for easy access to travel products and information, and as a sales outlet. Travel agents also act as “real-time intermediaries” since the transaction takes place as and when the consumer approaches, though possession of the product is still with the principal. Travel agents perform a wide range of services and activities for travellers as per their needs. Booking of air seats, transport services, accommodation, and recreation and entertainment services constitute some of the functions of a travel agent. In addition to flight tickets and hotel room bookings, an international traveller needs some other travel documents as well.
