ABSTRACT

This chapter helps the students to understand the environmental impacts of aviation. It explains the impacts of tourism on economy, society, culture and environment. Tourism becomes the main economic sector in some tourist destinations and the dependence on it reaches its maximum level when the destinations are established for mass tourism. Among the various social menaces of tourism, the worst is the child sex tourism (CST), for which millions of children are being trafficked for the pleasure of tourists. CST, which is growing steadily, is a subtype of child prostitution. Tourism is a negative factor destroying traditions, customs, manners and the environment. They view tourism as cultural imperialism. Like economic and socio-cultural impacts, environmental impacts of tourism development can generate indirect effects in addition to direct ones. Aesthetic pollution is another impact of tourism. Basically, it refers to the loss of natural beauty or traditional architecture, etc. due to construction.
