ABSTRACT

This chapter helps the students to analyse the intricate relationship between tourism and transport. The share of land transport is much more in domestic tourism, and in developed countries; automobiles, particularly private cars, are used frequently for leisure tourism. Domestic tourism is dominated by road transportation in most countries. Coach tourism is still a prevalent form of tourism in the European Union. While railways couldn’t appeal to tourists with innovation, coach travel and private jet travel for holidays progressed side by side with automobiles. Using high-speed trains and luxury train services along with tour packages in collaboration with other suppliers like hotels, rail tourism is being promoted in many countries. In spite of the limitations, there are repeat visitors on some luxury tourist trains, such as The Golden Chariot. Regional rail tour packages, with the assistance of listed tour operators, are offered by Amtrak and they encourage passengers to visit more destinations in the US.
