ABSTRACT

Many safety managers state their ideal as a place where they are not needed because safety is just a natural part of everyday work. Yet they then spend most of their time separating safety out and treating it as something distinct from everything else – telling people it’s more important, carrying out safety stand-downs and putting up posters. Safety is typically bolted on to normal operations rather than part of them. Safety needs to be reconnected with operations and firmly in the hands of the operational management of the business.
