ABSTRACT

Organisations should focus on some fundamental core components of safety management in order to achieve improvements and move on from the current plateau. These include placing people at the heart of safety management, involving them and co-creating the future with the workforce. It requires a focus on high-risk tasks rather than trying to cover everything. Safety must be owned by the operations teams rather than the safety team. Expertise needs to be built in safety theory and safety measured by inputs rather than outputs.
