ABSTRACT
Examinations of documents for purposes other than handwriting identification frequently require examination of original documents. Other requirements on the part of the examiner include: knowledge of products and product manufacture, experience with materials and their performance, understanding of appropriate technologies, and knowledge of scientific method and its application in testing. In order to analyze a signature digitally, and examine nonoriginal documents, there is a greater need to understand the technology behind digitization. The process of digitization involves the conversion of information into bits or bytes. An electronically-captured signature is one in which the signer employs conventional methods in physically signing a signature, except instead of using traditional ink and paper, the signer writes on a tablet or screen with a stylus or fingertip. It is sometimes important for document examiners to know how a digital signature may be a part of the digital signing process as digital signatures and electronic handwritten signatures are sometimes used together in signing a document.
