ABSTRACT

Despite the effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs in controlling the severity of positive symptoms, many patients continue to experience delusions and hallucinations. Psychosocial treatments are critically important in order to reduce the overall disability and improve functional outcome. Psychoeducational approaches include cognitive behavior therapy, cognitive remediation, social skills training and mindfulness-based techniques. Addressing social determinants of health such as housing, occupation, supportive connections with people and economic needs (‘HOPE’) is also critically important to promote recovery.
