This chapter discusses the consequence map for an organization and the subsequent simulation to quantify the impacts of a large reduction in force. It describes the risks associated with reducing the workforce in an organization by a significant amount. In any workforce-related organizational system, there is one overbearing feedback loop that exists: the balance of supply and demand. The chapter discusses the overall completed consequence map and describes the key feedback loops that drive the system. In this consequence map, there are four key feedback loops: balancing feedback loop for business size, reinforcing feedback loop for business growth, balancing feedback loop for the workload of the employees, and reinforcing feedback loop for employee productivity. The chapter shows that the consequence map migrated into an system dynamics simulation model, and how this model was used to test several what-if scenarios. It shows the next step beyond consequence maps and the benefits of simulation to show specific results.
