ABSTRACT

Cross communication is essential to promote innovation. By stripping virtual or physical barriers to communication, ideas have a better chance of being realized. Effective communication will make or break innovation. The healthcare industry is rife with waste, and interoperable technology infrastructure can help eliminate much of it. Medical images are likely the biggest source of semi-structured clinical content that exists within a healthcare organization. Most healthcare organizations manage these assets using Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS). PACS are designed to manage large volumes of medical images based on the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine standard. Healthcare information technology is shifting as models of consultation, treatment and care change. There are several principal sources of vital clinical information in healthcare organization. Healthcare only accounts for approximately 20 percent of differences in health outcomes, according to models widely accepted by the Institute of Medicine and documented in public health studies.
