ABSTRACT

The human elements of the 2 × 4 Model clinic are its essential assets. It is the professionalism, formal training, and experience of the multidisciplinary, collaborative 2 × 4 Model team that allows the clinic to provide highly individualized and effective mental health, addiction, and dual diagnosis care. This chapter considers the required and optional professional members of the 2 × 4 Model team, and what some of their key responsibilities should be. The 2 × 4 Model program does not exist without the professional contributions and leadership of one or more addiction psychiatrists. The psychotherapy team is the third required leg of the clinical team in the 2 × 4 Model clinic. The therapists can be diverse in their training backgrounds but need a combination of postgraduate education, supervised clinical training experience, and one or more certifications in the field of mental health and/or addictions therapy.
