ABSTRACT

Hoshin Kanri planning requires clear timelines so that everyone's goals are aligned and completed as effectively and timely as possible. One to two months prior to strategy development and leaders' initial C-level Hoshin catch-ball sessions, the combined human resources (HR), quality, and process improvement catch-ball facilitator team needs to prepare to train the three key "waves" of catch-ball sessions down through the organization. It is best to set up specific time frames for each hospital, where the entire team will be coming through to support the three catch-ball setting waves: C-level to vice president or director; director to frontline supervisor; and supervisor to frontline staff. The hospital or system CEO and hospital or system senior HR executive should set these timelines and communicate this to all leaders and staffs. It is the responsibility of all leaders to sign up for their Hoshin training and to coordinate with their catch-ball facilitator to compete their Hoshin goals.
