ABSTRACT

In the forming process, plastic deformation of the blank to the conformed shape is achieved by using a set of punch and die. The conversion of the blank into the finished product is dependent on various parameters. Defects are introduced into the component if the parameter selection is not proper. Therefore, optimum process parameters must obviously be selected to avoid incurring defects and to minimize costs and scraps. All parameters like machine parameters and process parameters are optimized with respect to their influence on the sheet metal forming characteristics. Optimization of process parameters in hydro-mechanical deep drawing (HDD) of a trapezoid cup is an important task for reducing production cost. The optimization method and numerical simulation technology have been applied in the sheet metal–forming process to improve the design quality and shorten the design cycle.
