ABSTRACT

Terrorist methods are usually used when dealing with unresolved political issues that impact a large number of people. This violent and aggressive form of warfare has been used many times throughout history, and has been aimed at territory acquisition and dominance, the building of sovereign states, and the overthrowing of an existing government. Aside from the political motives of terrorism, terrorist activities were also used to economically deprive a certain group, or establish supremacy and dominance over them. Kydd and Walter refer to a “provocation strategy” that terrorists employ, intended to provoke a violent reaction from the government “enemy” in response to acts of terrorism, which ends up mobilizing support by radicalizing the masses. Violent intentions of terrorists are translated into terrorist attacks, which can be divided into two categories: simultaneous attacks and single attacks. Terrorist groups have Twitter accounts, post videos on YouTube, and have an active social media presence.
