ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses security industry's role in the prevention of accidents, and compliance and adherence to regulatory requirements regarding workplace safety and hazards encountered on the job, and summarizes the security professional's role in planning and preparation in the advance of natural disasters, medical emergencies, pandemics, and fire and safety protocols. It identifies various OSHA standards for hazardous materials or conditions in the work environment and plans for on-site investigations and inspections at work locations. The chapter evaluates a site's potential accidents and emergencies and makes recommendations for the mitigation of the said incidents. It assesses a building's vulnerabilities where fire and life safety are concerned and makes recommendations for preventative action and detection equipment. The chapter also describes the various pandemic threats that a security professional may encounter, how to generally guard against pandemic threats in a general sense, and the basic response procedures.
