ABSTRACT

This chapter evaluates the various governmental programs in place that promote security in the cargo and port security critical infrastructure sector. It identifies the scope of operations of the Transportation Security Agency and gives examples of when private security operatives will work in concert with these professionals. The chapter states the various security concerns of rail and mass transit and outlines the industry initiatives that exist to secure the sector. It discusses how the Strategic Partnership Program on Agroterrorism (SPPA) makes a noble effort to unify diverse perspectives into one framework of food safety, and summarizes the importance of protecting the energy sector and discusses how its interlocking nature makes it an even more crucial sector than most other sectors. The chapter explains why the nuclear critical infrastructure sector is such a unique sector and the specific measures that can be taken to protect against threats, both natural and man-made.
