ABSTRACT

Groups progress through recognized developmental stages. Each stage has its own characteristics and leader functions. This chapter outlines the author’s stage model, which includes the Precommitment, Commitment, and Termination stages. Each stage has subphases that help illustrate important dynamics at each level. Other stage models found in the professional literature are also discussed for comparison purposes. The chapter ends with a detailed group protocol with added process observation to illuminate the various member and leader actions.
