ABSTRACT

The US Department of Justice has released a report that states the growth of criminal gangs is increasing in all socio-economic areas of the country. According to The National Youth Gang Survey Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) there were an estimated 28,100 gangs and 731,000 gang members throughout 3,500 jurisdictions nationwide. The prevalence rate of gang activity increased to 34.5" from 32.4". Robert Brzenchek interviewed Dale Yeager on the gang issue and the strain to the Criminal Justice System. Dale is a federally trained Forensic Profiler with the firm SERAPH of which Brzenchek sits on the board. Yeager stated, "Gangs need to be viewed differently by everyone. Gangs are not structured in the same way as they were 10 or even 15 years ago. Traditional gangs are still prominent, but they are being teamed with international drug cartels, terrorist groups and even political groups domestically".
