ABSTRACT

The gang mentality is strongly correlative with the socialization phenomenon inherent in the human species. The author's personal thoughts on this are that we are naturally social creatures who gravitate toward assimilating into groups that give us meaning within the confines of our contexts. In the case of America in relation to the world, it seems that this will get presumably worse than better given the geopolitical shifting going on in the world at present. Assuming that collaboration through the implementation of effective, organized gang prevention programs there can be improvement at all levels of the criminal justice system. Gang prevention programs were being introduced and many criminal justice leaders were tasked to implement the program. There was a complete hands-off approach by the leaders and police officers were a bit bewildered with the program and what was expected. The sociological perspective emphasizes the role of socialization as a prime factor in shaping behavior.
