ABSTRACT

To fully appreciate the cyclical nature of phenomena the readers need to appreciate and experience the void between gestalts. In relation to the map this void would fall in the space that is emerging in the post-contact phase. A criticism levelled at gestalt cycle models is that use of such maps perpetuate and encourage an individualistic view of the person, and do not adequately address the impact of the whole situation of which the person is but a part. They begin with the emergence of an urge or drive in the individual and imply that first there is a subject and then an environment followed by an interaction between the two.
