ABSTRACT

Needs and experiences are created between a person and their field. People are always actively organising their fields in relation to their current needs that will be influenced by past experience. Self-awareness is not an internal state but a situational event. It is self-as-process-awareness. Behaviour will be influenced by past and anticipated future, but it will be the present dynamics of the current situation (in which past and future are embedded) that the figural need surfaces that will organise the field, a field that in turn responds. Therapists need to gain an understanding of how clients organise their field and what elements of their fields ‘talking back’ are figural for them, alongside what accounts for them constellating their field the way they do. An experience organises the field, the field talks back and a new experience forms and so the process continues.
