ABSTRACT

In her substantial studies on movement and development, Frank (2001; Frank & La Barre, 2011) builds upon the work of Bainbridge-Cohen (1993) in identifying six fundamental movements that develop in relation to the infant’s environment, these being: yielding, pushing, reaching, grasping, pulling, releasing.

when a fundamental movement pattern emerges, it is a function of relationship and cannot be separated out as if the movement were of the baby or of the environment.
