ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 provides a comparison and contrast of the various forms and functions of linguistic creativity found on the three platforms discussed in earlier chapters (Twitter, Tumblr, Amazon) and considers, for instance, issues of temporality (i.e., ephemeral versus sustained textual performances) as well as the potential of online creativity to serve as a disruptive social force. This chapter includes a section about methodological reflections, which addresses decisions made regarding data sampling and data analysis, in addition to a range of practical and ethical analytic considerations. This chapter also explores some of the interesting ways in which creative and humorous digital texts can occasionally move beyond the digital realm and take on material expressions. Chapter 6 concludes by offering recommendations for further research on creative language practices online.
