ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows the importance of studying—through experimentation and behavior—Google Search algorithm. It explains that Google Search can be incredibly powerful tool for citizens trying to make choices in direct democracy. The book discusses that Google returns information relevant to ballot measures being searched in three different election contexts. It examines the correlates of Internet use for direct democracy in United States using the 2012 American National Election Study. The book demonstrates that using Google increases confidence in vote choice and preparedness in "transportation special purpose local option sales tax" (T-SPLOST) experiment. It clarifies advantages of experiments over survey research. The book shows that across three ballot measures, in the lab or on the street, with cookies or without cookies, and even when conducting a week-one re-test, Google Search produces political knowledge on ballot measures in American politics.
