ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines a set of principles to promote good mental health and healthy psychological living that can also inform the practice of rational emotive behavioural coaching (REBC). It discusses the attitudes that REBC theory considers to be central in the effective handling of adversity. As coachees may well encounter such adversities whatever type of coaching they are looking for, the chapter considers these attitudes, taken together, to be the foundation of healthy functioning. It provides a number of other principles promoting good mental health and healthy psychological living that can inform the practice of REBC. The principles are best regarded as guides for coachees to use in their work with their coaches, and it should be borne in mind that different principles will be relevant with different coachees. There are several ways to use these principles to inform REBC.
