ABSTRACT

Many learners with SEND need support to set out Maths problems in a systematic way on the page; this can be particularly true for learners with MLD, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia. You can scaffold this for them by giving them a worksheet with appropriate lines and boxes (like a flowchart or number frame), which provide a systemic framework for solving the problem – first, next, then, etc. This means that the challenge of the organisational element is taken away from them until they have mastered the conceptual skill, which is likely to help reduce their barriers to learning.
