ABSTRACT

The field of HRM and HRD has many specialisms, not all of which have synergy with QM and CI. However, the range of HRM and HRD activities which do have implications for working with QM initiatives, including the achievement of external quality accreditations and awards, is large. These activities need to be planned for, resourced, delivered and measured in order for an effective project plan to be executed. Where a strategic focus is being placed on QM and CI, a need will arise for consideration of the people management and development implications. In this chapter, we review some of the key areas to be considered and the possible interface between the HR and QM functions when an organization is working with external quality standards and awards. These areas include leadership and leadership development, communications, job design, team working, employee engagement, employee empowerment, knowledge management, organizational culture, and L&D. Whilst this list is not exhaustive, it represents some of the key areas for consideration.
