ABSTRACT

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a key body in the field of QM. Its interface with HRM and the application of external quality standards and accreditations has become a critical area of knowledge and application where businesses and other organizations wish to pursue excellence in their range of operations. ISO has global, international reach, and the application of its many different standards is to be found across a wide range of industries and countries. Over 22,000 different ISO standards are in use, and these are updated regularly to ensure their currency. In this chapter, we review some of the most commonly used ISO standards and explain how they are critical to the operation of many different types of operation. Working with ISO standards has become a critical part of the QM field.
