ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a model that incorporates two complexities: single-indicator variables and correlated errors. The model will be estimated from the covariance matrix of the measured variables. The variable names in the file are the variable names from the Amos model; these should either be familiar to students or self-explanatory. The latent variable Ethnic Minority is indexed by a single measured variable, and this portion of the measurement model would be underidentified without further constraints. The model includes correlations between the error and unique variances of the Achievement test scores and later Grades. With the use of a single indicator accounting for the likely error in the measured variable, the latent variable Ethnic Minority behaves like all the other latent variables in the model. The latent variable homework model included one latent variable that was indexed by a single measured variable.
