ABSTRACT

The Action Research Model for Transformational Innovation is an integrated model comprised of the following five components: data-driven educational decision-making; data, data, and more data; thinking differently; collaboration; and professional reflection. The five components should not work, nor should they be considered, in isolation. It is critical that implementation of this model reflects an integrated approach, not only factoring in all five components, but also centered around action research as its core facilitating mechanism. Interpreting standardized test scores has not always been an easy task for classroom teachers; however, it has improved. Two concepts that lend themselves very nicely to the ideas of collaboration are professional learning communities and collaborative action research. Each is valuable in its own right, but they also share a good many characteristics that can prove invaluable to this process of developing and implementing transformationally innovative ideas in education.
