ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows readers how they may think and talk about music in ways that are conducive to a constructive collaborative creative process. It aims to equip media creators with the awareness, understanding, and language that will enable them to be better collaborators and empowered storytellers. The book explores hands-on practical advice to media creators and thus should be relevant to any student of filmmaking, media production, and video game design. It addresses the sourcing, planning, and implementation of all types of music, including licensed tracks and newly commissioned scores, addressing key considerations and concerns that can arise with both options. The book provides some introductory pointers and guidelines to help uncover knowledge gaps. The material requires no prior knowledge about media music and can serve as a useful companion during an introductory course to media music, be it theoretical or practical.
