ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we outline core components of post-traumatic stress, and build a foundational understanding of trauma that you can apply to the wide array of experiences your students and clients have experienced. We’ll define different types of stress, comb through the details of the diagnostic criteria for PTSD, and explore the more complicated presentations of complex and developmental trauma. These foundations provide us with guidelines to organize how we think about the experience of trauma and recovery, so that we can build the road of resilience with skill and purpose.
