ABSTRACT

Many years back, we were working with an Australasian company that manufactured metal and plastic containers. At the time, they had about 14 sites throughout Australia and New Zealand. The National Operations Manager wanted to introduce Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) measurement to all the sites so he could monitor equipment performance, so he copied various pages on OEE from the book TPM Development Program by Seiichi Nakajima, and asked all the plant engineers to calculate the OEE for a specific machine that was at all the sites. The interesting thing was that when we got them all together to discuss TPM and asked them each to share their OEE findings, the results ranged from 40% to 105%.
