ABSTRACT

The book begins by explaining the current interest in social mobility, taking an overview of the policy documents produced over recent years. Beginning with a broad scan of documents produced by Government and charitable groups, this policy review then narrows down to documents produced by and in relation to the professions, and the legal profession in particular. In light of this it lays the foundations for how a professional association may intervene. The second half of the chapter outlines the methodology used: the mixed-methods approach gathering predominantly qualitative data analysed through a framework based on grounded theory. Issues of funding, ethics and access are addressed, and the case study, Inner Temple’s Pegasus Access and Support Scheme, is introduced.
